Praying

"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." —(Romans 8:26 ESV). Comforting words. But we occasionally find ourselves feeling the need to pray and seem to come up short where it comes to 'just the right words.' “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” —(Matthew 6:8 ESV). Our Heavenly Father is there, in heaven, waiting for us to talk to Him. Like a parent needing communication with his or her child, God is eager to have a conversation with us. We need just speak. Remember, Jesus' has given to us the ultimate prayer in The Lord's Prayer and it should be prayed daily — not just saved for Sunday — for in it is all our petitions before our Father in Heaven. That said, there is no "official" format to prayer. It is a conversation with our Lord. It is not complicated.

The Disciple Ship is building a collection of prayers. In time this collection will become quite extensive particularly where it comes to different prayer subjects. For example, one such subject might be a prayer of thanksgiving; another - a plea for comfort when in sorrow. For those uncomfortable (now) with praying [aloud in their own words] to their God, such a collection of prayers will, hopefully, provide some guidance. Use them often. In no great amount of time you will find yourself quite comfortable talking to God...often. At such a time, consider jotting down your prayer and sending it to us.
